The word “Kelpie” was first recorded in 1905-10. The Scottish legends describe “Kelpie” as a water spirit; which has a form of a horse and gives a warning to those who are in danger of drowning. Well, Australian Kelpie is completely different compared to the description given above. Australian Kelpie dogs are fierce, intelligent, and, definitely, the best companion. They are born leaders, and, so, it would be discriminating if we judge them as a pet.

Australian Kelpie dogs are self-dependent and do not need any guidance. They originate from Australia and are often used for herding. They have a muscular body and excellent stamina. History of an Australian Kelpies: How they came into existence?
During the 19th century, the sheep and wool industry in Australia was growing rapidly. For more production and quick work, the ranchers needed strong dogs that could not only get adapted to harsh environmental conditions easily but could also work in a vast area. That was the time around 1870 when Kelpies came into existence.
A century ago, Kelpies were brought to North America, and, so, to no surprise, they easily adapted to the varying climates and also the different livelihood. They were commonly seen as pets, but even today, around the world, there are thousands of Kelpies who are a helping hand to the ranchers.
They are registered by the North American Australian Kelpie Registry and recognized by the United Kennel Club. Both these organizations have the same goal of preserving the natural strength, temperament, and the overall health of the Kelpie.
